Exploring the abandoned high school

The school was opened in 1954 and educated 11-14 year olds with about 550 students in the late 200s. In 2007 is received a positive ofsted rating calling it “a good school with many outstanding features”. In september 2012 it merged with Burleigh Community College becoming part of what is now Charnwood College, a school for 11-19 year olds.

The building from the front outside looks like your typical abandoned building, but behind the caretakers home there you can find plants growing all up the side of the school. This photo is from the boiler room which we originally thought was the entrance, only to find it was far from it.

When I first got inside, this is the room I saw. The majority of the upper floor was just empty classrooms and nothing really special. There was also a room where somebody had set a fire but put it out with a fire extinguisher but apart from that, there wasn’t much vandalism.

This is my favorite area from upstairs. I chose the perfect day to go, so the sun was beaming through every window and the empty areas like this had a nice atmosphere to them. It reminded me of a Japanese school that you see in video games and films sometimes.

Moving down to the second floor I noticed how clean it all still was. There was minimal vandalism and graffiti which is weird for how long its been abandoned. Just goes to show how well security had been doing their jobs. The room behind me I was a bit skeptical to go in due to a sign on the door saying something about a detective, but ended up being nothing significant.

The second floor – while mostly being empty – had a few gems such as this. I think this used to be a science lab or cooking room but plants had somehow found their way through the wall. There was no window there, just a weird covering where Im assuming a sign used to be. I think the plants got through the vent.

This is the bottom floor on the far side. Im assuming not many people went to this area as it was very minimally touched. There was a layer of dust over the floor and tables which means people havent been in this room for a long time. This was likely the most well preserved room in the whole building which is cool that I found.

This is one of the best classrooms on the bottom floor. I loved how the plants had gotten through to here. Its a real juxtaposition having nature next to science equipment and I think it looks really cool. I hope to find more places like this with nature starting to take over a clean area.

This is one of the most beautiful photos I have taken yet which Im very proud of. This was an old style gymnasium with most of the equipment still left behind. I can only imagine how nice this sports hall looked when it was open.

This is the more modern sports hall and coincidentally the most vandalized spot in the whole building. It was a nice room and had loads of piano keyboards on the floor behind me, at least 50 of them.

This was one of the bathrooms inside the changing rooms on the bottom floor. This must have been on the back side of the building which was the most overgrown. I also got a bit spooked in this room when I heard crunching footsteps on glass outside the door. Although when I went out to look there was nobody there, so It might’ve just been a bird or something playing tricks.

This is the hallway right outside of the changing rooms (The blue door on the left) where I heard footsteps. Its either haunted or there is an animal in one of these rooms which im glad didn’t jump out and give me a heart attack.
Overall this has been my best explore so far. The rooms were beautiful and had a nice atmosphere. Id rate difficulty a 7/10 to get into though but 100% worth it.
